In 2010, the then Texas president claimed it was media rights causing...

UT to turn down a PAC invite. Below is an excerpt from the linked 2010 article:

"University of Texas president Bill Powers told the media Tuesday that keeping the ability of media rights in a television deal was a key factor in turning down the Pac-10 and keeping the Big 12 intact."

Now there may be some analysis by the UT administration and AD that have studied the time zone issue, but everything I've seen or heard has been message board chatter.

All I know is that UT alum have a desire to be associated with the California universities. But as everyone will point out, it's the university president and board that will make the ultimate decision. But I'm sure some wealthy UT alumni have the administration's ear.

As for the LHN and "ESPN control," the State of Texas is much wealthier and more powerful than ESPN. And UT (with the State of Texas' governance) owns a share of the LHN. And don't forget that IMG owns a share as well. In other words, Texas is going to go where Texas wants to go, and there is nothing the Big XII, ESPN or anyone else can do about it.

UT has been to the PAC-10/12 well before. I expect them to do it again.
